🏠 Remote Work Security

Episode 1: Online meeting security

1. The Problem

Story from HKCERT animation videos

Ah Chun's employees are working from home (WFH). The Hacker, Keung, is excited because home computers often lack company security, making it easier to steal trade secrets.

2. The Coffee Shop Trap

Fake Wi-Fi (Evil Twin)

Hackers create fake Wi-Fi hotspots (e.g., "Free Coffee Wi-Fi") to intercept your data. If you connect, they can copy your files.

🛡️ Modern Tip: Don't use public Wi-Fi for work. Turn on your phone's 4G/5G Hotspot instead. It is much safer!

3. The Secure Tunnel (VPN)

🚇
Virtual Private Network

A VPN is like a secure, encrypted tunnel between your home and the office. It stops hackers from seeing what you send over the internet.

⚠️ Warning: If your home PC has a virus, a VPN might bridge that virus to the office! Ensure your home antivirus is updated.

4. Safe Video Meetings

📹
Stop "Zoom Bombing"

Hackers love to crash meetings. To stay safe:

  • Use a Unique ID & Password for every meeting.
  • Turn on the Waiting Room to verify guests.
  • Lock the meeting once everyone has joined.
  • Update the software regularly.

5. The Last Line of Defense

🔐
Encryption

In the video, the hacker stole a file but couldn't open it because it was Encrypted.

💡 Lesson: Always encrypt sensitive files. Even if a USB drive is lost or a hacker steals the file, the data remains unreadable garbage to them.
